  • Haven't flushed trans for 25K, Is it OK to flush?

I bought my 95 3.4 A4 with 82K. I have 108K on it now. I TOTALLY forgot about the trans after I had it flushed at 83K.

So its been about 25K since my past trans flush; is it OK if I have it flushed now, or should I just change the tranny fluid and filter by myself?

I know flushing a trans can be bad if the car is WAY over the limit, but I don't know what the intervals for flushing trans fluid are and I don't want my tranny going to poop because I waited too long.

if it;s that bad that a flush will hurt it then there is no point in changing the filter and small amount of fluid anyway.

take a look at teh fluid. see how it looks, feels and smells.

I would much rather see more people flush the trannys instead of just droping the pan.

Its ok to flush it or just drop the pan and change the filter, depending on the condition of the oil. If it smells burned or has browinsh color then you should flush it, cuz by just dropping the pan you'll only be able to put 4qts. out of 12qts that in your whole tranny. You suposed to do it every 30K anyway, so you are not over the limit yet.

unless the fluid is really realy bad. The flushing will clean the filter. They will usualy add a solvent in and drive it around the block before they flush them. Most people just drop the pan. but lke said your only changing 3-4 quarts of the fluid as opsed to teh arox 10 that is contained in the whole system. Thats like drianing 2 quarts of oil out of your motor, changing the filter and calling it good enough

Well the fluid isn't that bad, smells stinky but it doesn't smell really burnt (a light whiff of burnt). Still red though.

My fluid's brownish red and is so burnt you can smell it after you park the car without even opening the hood. I've been having some tranny slipping problems lately too... I finally got the funds to change the fluid but is this the real problem of my tranny slipping or could it be that imfamouse A4 P1870 code where the Valve is screwed and the computer sends max preasure to the line? I have had a P1870 and SES light twice now and the 1st to 2nd harsh shift..

            Should I replace fluids?
            Get the Sonnax Kit?
            or Replace Trans?

I can only do one of those because I'm a bit budgeted... so if it doesn't work I'm screwed...
