  • Edge TC and 1LE DS installed

one word to describe it....Wow. I had the TC and driveshaft put in, as well as a tranny service and new front seal put in. it took the whole day, but it was worth it. I love how transparent the difference is. It's like, I haven't done anything tothe car, and then when u think ur going 35, ur really going 50. It accelerates so much more easily now than it used to w/ the stock converter and stock 1 pc. steel driveshaft. I'm glad I got the lower control arms put on friday, because they really helped my launches. When I punched it before, w/ the lca's on, I'd dead hook. now, I burn out for about 3-4 seconds, then I hook. This is with:

    BMR chrome-moly poly/rubber LCA's(MTCA002)
    1LE rear swaybar(21mm.)
    Falken 255-50-ZR16 tires(3/4 tread left)
SLP LSD w/ stock 3.42 rear gears

It feels like I've gained power everywhere. The TC took care of the off the line, and the driveshaft took care of the higher speeds. I granny it now, and it feel like I have my foot about 1/3 in it now. Anyone can drive the car normally w/o suspecting anything has been done. That's what I call a "transparent power increase". you can see though it, thinking nothing has changed, but when u look at the acceleration difference, u know something has been changed. TC specs are:

    3000 stall
    2.55 str
    96.8% eff.

I'd like to give thanks to Andre at Edge for getting me such a great streetable converter. I am very suprised at how much better the car feels now with it in, and it's not a hardcore TC either. I just wonder how 3.0 stall would feel off the line. This guy knows what he's doing with his converters and I will vouch for that.

have you tried sitting still with the brakes on and see how high in the rpm the car goes up to before it starts spinning? i have an edged 3600 and am not at all happy with it, andre and i both think it needs restalled, its a 3600 and only goes up to 2800-2900 even with nittos then the tires spin, it should atleast brake stall to 3400

have you ran the 1/4 before the tc? the seat of the pants meter isnt the best way to judge, i know my 1/4 sux for whati have done, of course i had tuning issues with fuel last year, but andre did say my tc probably needs restalled :(

I am basing the fact on before and after results, the most obvious being:

I had my lca's on all weekend, w/o having the tc and driveshaft installed, and I had no wheel hop and no tire spin at all. on the freeway, the car would accelerate slower and slower the faster I went, and this was noticable enough to be timed if I'd had a stopwatch.

monday night, after the tc and ds install, I made 4 full throttle launches w/ it while dead stopped at a stoplight. I broke the tires loose each time for about 3-4 seconds each. no wheel hop at all, just that little bit of tire spin. I'd say that I gained something off the line. on the freeway, the car now accelerates more freely than it did before. it pulls much stonger now that there is less rotating weight to weight it down.

I have not brake stalled it yet, nor have I taken it to the track. I doubt I will be able to anytime soon, since most of my car buddies and I are sick w/ something. 2 have pneumonia, and the rest of us just feel like crap. we will wait for a while till we go to any car shows.

Wow...I can't wait to get my 3200 stall TC on. Right now I have no suspension mods at all but I'll soon probably need em.

I guess a good start would be with LCA's.

yea, lca's seem to get most people the biggest increas in traction. also, cheap upgrades would also be a bigger rear swaybar, new shocks(if urs are old and worn), and relocation brackets.

oh, and LSD and sticky tires are a must. the suspension mods won't work as well if they have crappy tires. I have 3.42 gears, so that helps add to my traction problem, but smaller gears may not have that much of a problem, since torque isn't multiplied through them as much.

A bigger rear sway bar for traction? I hope you're kidding.

LCA's, PHB and some tire is all you'll need.

when the driveshaft turns hard and quick w/ a lot of torque, the rear end has a tendency to want to turn w/ it. this twisting loads one tire more than the other, causing uneven traction. the rear swaybar resists this twist, and keeps both tires planted more evenly. the bigger the swaybar, the less twist there is. airbags would work as well, but u reduce cornering ability in the process.

EXACTLY, stop fearing the rear sway bar!!
