My car is in the shop now having an LT1 and everything that goes with it dropped in. The donor car only has the stock 2:73 gears, and I want to upgrade now during the swap while they're doing the work. I'm looking into either 3:73's or 4:10's. I already bought a posi 3 series carrier. The only mods I'll have right away would be a K&N cai, Jet Hot long tube headers, and a borla catback. What do you guys think on gears? Is 4:10's overkill? Will only have the stock tires also. TIA
Shawn

I'd go with the 4.10s if you have a 6 speed, otherwise 3.73's.

Depends on how often you're going to be on the highway. I would run 4.88s if they helped the 1/4, but it sucks enough to be at 3k doing 75mph with my 4.10s and verter. Without verter it was 3k at 80mph. Still pretty sucky. The farthest I drive now is to the track(100miles) and it's about half highway.
I had a bunch of LT1 friends and they all ran 4.10s. It's sick acceleration they add. If you can live with high rpm get 4.10s. 3.73s will still be very nice for acceleration and decent for highway rpm.
Sorry for the lack of info. It is pretty much my daily driver in the summer. It is an auto, and I just would like to feel the acceleration from a dead stop. My friend has a 96 mustang cobra, and from a dead stop you get pushed back into the seat. I'm not into the track, and 1/4 times. It's just a street car. But would like to feel that acceleration. The way it sounds, I should go with the 3.73's right?
