i have the dreaded 1870 code. i've been feeling the rough shift for sometime off and on now but finally got the SES code today. from what i've read i have 3 options....1. valve body bore and sonnax kit installed, 2. rebuild tranny, 3. buy a new tranny. has anyone in the houston area had option one done??? if so, is the sonnax kit what shops install mostly? are there better or cheaper kits available? bottom line...how much to take care of this problem with the bore/kit fix??? thanks for any help!! oh yeah...its a '96 4L60E

Go with #1... find a tranny shop nearby that can look at it. It's such a common problem, most shops should be aware of it.

I have the same problem unfortunately. Hey can you give me some rebiuld prices around your area? Whatever happens, DON'T drive it until you DO get it fixxed because it will get worse and you'll fry your solenoids, if THAT happens then you'll have no other choice but to get a rebiuld or a new tranny. If you get a new tranny, make sure it's either got the sonnax valve in it, or is a tranny out of a 2000 + car...

        If it's the valve problem.
