speedometer correction after gear change

I am about to swap my 3.08 for a 3.42. I know of the SLP and the Jet speedometer correction devices, but what I want to know is if a dealer can simply reprogram my PCM to accept the new gear ratio and make it think it is now GU6 instead of GU4. Has anyone had a dealer do this and how much did they charge?

Yes they can. Or you can buy a 3.42 PCM from a yunk yard. They can charge whatever they want to.

Dealers can do it easily, just tell them that you were in a wreck and the rear end was replaced with a 3.42 gear ratio. Then tell them you need your computer flashed to the same specs as the Y87 performance package. If you have a maro and they say it only works on firebirds, just say noooo it is the SAME engine so it will work. I've been quoted between $75-$99 for this. Have not done it yet simply because i have not had the gears put in. Easiest way IMO.

Thanks guys, I certainly appreciate the advice. Keep an eye out for my developing Vortech Supercharger project. Just a little something I am designing that should be very cost effective.
