  • Different gear ratios...

does anyone know if people sell a 3.55 gear and pinion set? i know they make them but i dont know if they make them for a 3 carier 7.5" rear...
i want new gears as im running 3.23s right now and im not sure if i want to make the jump to 3.73s just yet

Don't forget the ever popular 3.42's.

        well i want a higher ratio than a 3.42 but lower than a 3.73
i have the 3.23 right now...
do they not have one for our rear or would one have to be made custom?
or would 3.73s be the way to go
i do quite a bit of highway driving so i want my gas milage to stay semi-decent hence the reason for a 3.55 instead of 3.73s and yet i want to be able to pull people running 3.42s

I have been thinking about getting the gears changed because i've been reading it helps, but thats about the extent of my knowledge. Yes i did do a search on the subject, but everyone already seems to know what they're talking about so its hard to learn. What i'd like to know are:
            1. what exactly does the number mean
            2. what does a higher or lower gear ratio do
            3. what is the recommended setting, and what sacrifices are given up when setting it at a higher or lower level. anything you can tell me, just talk to me like a child. thanks. also, is it expensive to get done, and what kind of place would i have to take it to?
