• flushing clutch line...

Has anyone done this? I've read too many stories of lost pedal pressure and such after a flush or bleed to be confident. The reason I even wanted to do this in the first place is because I thought it would be the first thing to check for my shifting problem. When the car warms up or even if it's just really hot outside, it gives me trouble shiftin into first. but at night or on a cold start it's fine. I looked at the clutch fluid and it looks horrible. It's really dark with gunk floating in the reservior. So I thought I'd flush it.

So any personal experiences or advice?

Yes, you can bleed the lines. There is a bolt where the slave cyliner sits on the driver's side of the trans, it has a hole on the center of it like a brake bleeder screw on your calipers. They are towards the front of the trans.
Bleed the bolt sorta like you would conventional brakes.
Fill the reseviour with dot 3 brake fluid, have someone depress the clutch pedal to push out air and old fluid, tighten bolt, and re-do again several times.

hehe I was just going to post this, my brake fluid was bad, figure since I was going to be in teh mindset fo swaping that out might as well do the clutch as well.

About how much will it hold? And is DOT 3 ideal or can we go better?

from what I understood, that's exactly what got people into trouble with lost pedal pressure... there's one guy suggesting that the only reliable way to do it is by getting a pressure bleader that attaches to the reservior tank. but it's $50. so my question is, have you done a bleed/flush yourself the way you describe.

Yes, I've done it exactly like that three times since I have owned my car, and had zero problems since. If you have a Chilton's Manual, look at page 7-18. It describes the procedure.
I have also posted another solution to hard shifts about two years ago; Change the trans fluid. My shifter was getting harder and harder to put into 1st gear and I didn't know why. I bought a new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bushing getting ready to install it a few days later, but decided to change the trans fluid first to get it out of the way. For some strange reason, the damn thing shifted like it was new again!! That was 2 years ago, and I STILL haven't installed the new clutch yet.

yeah what he said,

after all the old crap is out, fill the resivor, pump clucht like 7-8 tims and hold to the floor, then release the bleeder.. till no fluid comes out, tighten bleeder then pump and hold again, do this again and agian till 2 things happen.

1 no more air comes out

2 you see clean clear brake fluid coming out....

then your done top off the fluid and check it evey 100 miles for the first 500 miles

How did you change the fluid in the tranny? Syphon? Or take it somewhere?

I've changed my tranny fluid. I used the drain plug to drain it, and the fill plug to fill it back up. ;)

haha... but on a lighter note be careful with antifreeze I got it on a screwdriver and put it in my mouth and it actually tasted pretty good. So that warning is right about kids and animals drinking it. Also if you change fluid on an auto, becareful the gasket doesn't snag a way you don't want it to and dump, rotten auto tranny fluid on your head.

I took a syphon pump and stuck the hose in the tranny after draining and pulled out about another half pint or so of fluid, either way you are going to need some kind of pump to put it back in the tranny because you aren't gonna dump it straight in out of the container, there isn't enough room between the tranny and the floorpan of the car. I guess you could get a really long piece of hose stick it in the tranny and route it out from under the car but I see that getting really messy really fast.

I was thinking of maybe a turkey baster(cheap, and easy to squirt into the tranny) BUt not sure if there is enough room for that even.

wonder how much one of those old school lubing cans cost with the little handpump on them.

You could always pull the driveshaft and jack the front of the car up.

Thats what I do (but only when my clutch fails, so its in the air anyways.. )
