No, that's a common problem.
Both my 4th gens have done it.
My 12 bolt rear does it.
The rear will blow if you leak all the fluid out. If it's leaking real bad (a lot of drops on floor), then get it fixed. If it's just slightly leaking (as mine does) where it coats the rear with a light coat of oil but none lands on the ground, I'd just make sure to top off the fluid every few months or so.

it could be coming through the threads on the pinion, mine was leaking a while back and it was that instead of the seal, i pulled the nut off and covered the threads w/liquid teflon and there is not one spot of oil on the whole rear now...Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98

its just coating it, not enough to drip on the ground, what fluid would it be? i have all my fluids topped of about every 2 months when i get an oil change.1997 Camaro RS

3\" Flowmaster Exhaust,Pacesetter headers,Catco Cat,Cold Air Intake,Clear bumper lights altezzas,chrome rear bumper letters,chrome badges, headlight conversion kit(soon to come),2 12 MTX Thunder 8000, MTX 6500d amp, Fosgate 1 farad cap

It's probably a leak from the pinion seal. Mine looks exactly like that. As long as it's just the coating, I wouldn't worry about it.
