I received my 1 piece drive shaft from ebay about a month ago and went under the car today to prep the patient. Much to my surprise I discovered a one piece steel driveshaft?!
According to all the research I should have a 2 piece no? 98 auto no special packages.
I mean it's cool and all, but I am so con fuse ed.

not to sound like your dad or whatever, but... you should have checked for yourself first. ;)
i really thought i was supposed to have a one-piece, then i crawled under there and saw a two-piece with a bad center bearing that had slung grease all over the place.
i think the difference maker is the transmission. who knows what difference it makes... but it must for the engineers to specify. it could also be one of those "early vs. late model year" deals.
it seems like the HP transfer would be greater with a one piece...

well i know that; i'm wondering what the two piece has over a one piece in terms of why the engineers selected the two piece for the manual transmission and the one piece for the automatic. i'm assuming that since the manual is lighter, it won't absorb/deaded as much vibration as the auto, thus it gets a less vibration-prone 'shaft.

I'm still putting in the aluminum one piece I got from ebay (1LE). You can have my old steel one piece if you want.
