  • 2.73 ABS disc rear from an LT1

I'm thinking of picking one of these up from a friend of mine. He's asking $450 for the full thing, brakes included. (That's about $340 to you Yankees. :D )

Now, I know 2.73s will slaughter my in-city mileage and my acceleration... although my highway economy will be brilliant (too bad it doesn't balance out). What must be done to change the rear end gears to 3.23s or 3.42s? I'm not very experiences as far as rear end gears are concerned, so any help would be appreciated. I did a search and nothing really seemed to touch upon my questions.

Oh, and does it matter if I get a TCS or non-TCS rear?

to buy a used rear end and then change gears in it, you wouldt be $300 better off to change the gears in your own car and convert to disc brakes.

Yes, it matters if it has TCS and you don't (or visa versa). The TCS uses a 4 Channel system (both back hubs have abs sensors) while non TCS has 3 (the back pumpkin has a sensor, wheels don't).

As for the gear change, you'd be better off waiting until you find one with the gears and stuff you want in it.

I didn't think V6s had TCS, do they?

I'm pretty sure it was available as an option when I got my 2000 Camaro.
