where do you get the aluminum flywheel? how much is it? I am needing a new cluth so I might as well throw the fly wheel on while I am in there. I will do a before and after track run and let you know. I am sure someone else has already done this but I will let you know.

      Exactly!
I am still hoping someone if forget the argument at hand and let me know if the bolt pattern (crank to flywheel) for the 3800s is the same as the 3.4Ls.

Yes, so do I but I would settle for someone just lying to me about it. :(

Actually, SLP makes a nice steel flywheel for LS1's, but not the V-6 cars. I dont know if anyone has tried to convert an LS1 flywheel to V-6. I think I remember a while back that the early 3rd gens shared the same bellhousing from the 6cyl and v8's. You might see if Hayes or another similar company makes flywheels for 3rd gens and see if the bolt pattern is the same. Hell, if you can find a v-8 5-speed car in a junk yard, you can compare bolt patterns and go from there. Other than that, it might need to be a custom piece if you are set on steel.

...By the way, no hard feelings, I enjoy a good argument.

Hey, I am always up for a good argument also. That's how things happen and ideas are born. Anyways, the diameter on those V8 flywheels is too large on the early 3rd gen stuff. It won't fit into a 60* bellhousing. The diameter of the 3800 flywheels is right but that would have to come down to the bolt pattern on the crank and the number of teeth on the ring gear.

$400 for an aluminum flywheel = no thanks

With steel or iron you'll never have to worry about it shattering, either.

Actually, cast iron will shatter too.

                        Never heard of that happening.

But dammit, now I'm confused and can't seem to find any legit info. Is the stock 3.8 flywheel steel or iron? I always just thought it was steel but now that I think about it I'm not certain...
