• help with my camaro

I recently purchased a 96 auto camaro and when I floor the gas pedal the rpms go to 4500 and then shifts to second and then redlines and keeps bouncing in the red without shifting to third any ideas on what it could be

    Probably need your transmission rebuilt.

The first thing to do is to change the fluid and filter, and see how it works then. In the mean time don't beat on it too much.

Sounds like it could be sticky valves, damaged pressure sensors, or damaged wiring.

Anyway, first thing to do is to change the fluid and filter.

If it comes down to it how much would it cost to rebuild the transmission

I'm not sure because I have a manual, but does the auto use any kind of vacuum to help with the shifting? If so This could cause your problem. If not I would think you need a rebuild

Transmission is electronically controlled. As posted above, check your fluid first. If it's not the fluid, go for a filter and fluid change. This should clear it up.

Aftermarket parts? Hitting your rev limiter? Stall speed? clean the valve body if all else fails....just DON'T flush the tranny....it causes a tranny failure 99% of the time with high mileage.

new update, were going to change the filter and fluid and stuff today. Also when when we rev it, won't go past 4000 rpms. It just bounces off it. Hopefull this clears it up.

Are you in park or neutral when it bounces on 4k? Or does it happen when you are driving around?

maybe its sensor went crazy, try disconnecting battery and reconnecting, that usually resets most of computer junk, then see if it shifts ok, if not, tranny rebuild sounds right, but you always have to try the easy things first

If you're in neutral or park its not supposed to rev beyond 4500 I believe.

If thats true then that sux. We changed it and he has no first gear or overdrive now :( . We think we had everything in right, the filter. The more fluid it lost the worse it got. So we left the car at my house and see what we going to do tommorw mourning. Maybe have someone look at it and see what our options are.
