• Question about gear change?

I have a 1999 Camaro 3.8 Auto With 3.08 open end rear. Someone is giving me 3.23 gears for free out of an open end rear. Would I need anything besides the gears to do swap or do I need other pieces? Is it even worth it to do the awap? The gears are free so I am thinking any swap will help......

From 308 to 323 I believe you'll need a 3 series carrier (w/ LSD) ... you should get a takeoff limited slip (SLP or other source)

Yup, you'll need a 3 series carrier.
$99 Zexel-Torsen takeoff from SLP is your best bet.
Plus you'll want an install kit and probably something to recalibrate your speedometer/odometer.

You need special tools to do the job. If you set the lash wrong on the gears. They will chew themselves up in no time at all. Most decent mechanics sub out differential work.

I plan on mastering differential work prior to learning to rebuild the automatic transmission. The auto tranny rebuild is the most coveted and prized do it your self undertaking.

You flat out rule if you can do everything including rebuilding the tranny.
