I went to Kragens to get a gasket for my diff fluid changed.

    1. they asked if i wanted the front or rear one?
2 they said "its not out yet for a 02 bird. You will have to get it from the dealer or make your own."

    Can you explain those?

Its a firebird, there is no FRONT differential.
You can use a gasket from a 1993-2002 model, have the guy check another year model.

Many people make their own gaskets, but I hear RTV leaks so I wouldn't use that. See what installuniversity did on their TA cover install.

I was just at Checker auto (part of Kragen) yesterday, and they asked if it was for the front or the rear also.

They had one for my '96, make sure you get the one for a 7.5" 10 bolt rear.

I am wondering if their computers pull up the pinion seal on the front of the differential with the regular differential gasket.

I think it was designed that way for 4 wheel drive applications.

I think that it came up that way when I was AutoZone too, but the guy was smart enough to know a camaro only has a rear dif. At least in the AutoZone system, the pinion seal is not the "front" one.
