  • Wierd stuff going on!!

I've had this problem for a while but haven't really had a chance to take it to a shop for them to check it out, so i figure you guys can maybe figure this one out.
When i'm accelerating slowly and i go over about 44mh and then let then stop accelerating and then try to accelerate w/out letting the car under abt 44mph(bare with me plz), the rpms drop to under 1500 and the car doesn't go over 1500, when i try to accelerate the needle on the speedometer goes to 1500 and doesn't go past, when i let the car drop to under around 42-43 and flor it then the car accelerates, but once i stop accelerating the same thing happens
When i'm at 44 and the car won't go over 1500 rpms and i just flore it the car kind of jerks for a seconed and then accelerates and the rpms go over 1500
I know this is one of the more wierder posts you may have read and may not exactly understand what f*** i'm talking about, but hey maybe someone does, any ides toss it out, im thinking maybe torque convertor

I see you mentioned the torque converter meaning you have an automatic tranny. Are you in D or OD when this happens(3 or D on firebird I think)? I the engine running strong? When you try to accelerate from 44mph are you giving it a little gas or a lot? Are you trying to accelerate without making the tranny down shift.

first of, it's an automatic transmission
when im going over 44mph im giving it a moderate amount of gas no different then any other speed, the engine runs fine, and im in D

At 44mph your car is going into torque converter lockup which drops the rpms to around 1,500. When this happens and you try to accelerate is the engine bog down? Before I got my gears my engine didn't have enough torque to accelerate from 44mph noticably without down shifting, but at the same time it didn't take a lot of pedal pressure to make it down shift. Sounds like something is up with the a sensor or something. Maybe the computer cant tell that you're giving more gas and wont shift. Is the ses light on? This ones got me stumped for now. If you figure it out, let us know what it was so we can be aware of this problem.

this could make sense, what senors or correlated w/the computer not sensing that im giving more gas
