well. i just got my car back from the mechanics shop. they said that the driveshaft wouldn't fit. its a LS1 driveshaft. he said a chunk from where the U joints are was to big and wouldnt' even jam in there. or something like that. WHAT THE HELL?! all of these driveshafts are universal, right? he said the length of the driveshaft was right, but something about the U joints wasn't. SILVERTAWS6 I'M LOOKING AT YOU! any ideas. i remember you saying something that you changed out..
"It has a 1350 conversion u-joint on it for the Moser rear, but this can be changed back to a 1310 (about $30)."

Your sig is the most important part of your message. Make sure that you list EVERY single thing that you have done to your car so that we can all go \'oooh!\' and \'Ah!\'. Please make your sig consistently longer than anything else you post. Please include your lengthy sig with EVERY single post you make during a reply, even if you only reply with a monosyllable grunt.
I don't really know for sure, but it's most definately orderable.
(I remember reading that post; thinking about a D/S, too)

Nope, unfortunately I don't still have my original 1310 one :( . You can get one at Autozone or really any autoparts store. It's a 1310 U-joint instead of the 1310 to 1350 conversion one. Made by splicer or the like. If you do get one, I'll give you a hand installing it. Heck, you could meet me down at one of the E-town meets and we can do it there. It's easy enough to do, just requires a jack, 2 jackstands, and a socket wrench.
Or if on the weekend or something you want to take a ride up, I'll give you a hand installing it at my friends house or a parking lot or something (my gravel driveway is NO fun working on).
I don't know how the conversion u-joint went in though, you might want a shop to press an original one back in and then we can install the driveshaft .

Actually, let me get in contact with Jay Fisher, he might by some remote possibility still have my original (he did the install). It might be a long shot, but I'll check it out.
Chris
EDIT: I sent Abe at Jay Fisher an email, he's usually pretty prompt at getting back to me. I'll let you know when I hear something!

"Spicer" is the company. And yeah shouldn't cost more than about 30 bucks.
When you are just swapping the end caps, for new ones its more involved and more fun to watch, because a guy with a torch will heat it till it shoots off about 30 feet across the shop floor. Look...laugh...then take cover!
The 'right' way to do it is probably using a press, so if you have access it may be safer, but not near as fun? I think I gave the guy 5 or 10 bucks to heat them enough to come off so the new U-joint could be installed. Put it in a vice and beat the P!$$ out of it with a hammer. And make sure you don't disturb any needle bearings.
If Spicer is too costly, remember this is an L36 - not an LS1, so do you really need them - I would say, 'no' at this point. But stronger never hurts if you got the cash.
Greasable U-joints with a Zerk fitting will last longer than a non-greasable (but stronger) U-joint. With it being an L36 I'd pop for a greasable unit personally.
<b>15.41</b> @ 89.80 & 15.45 @ <b>91.64</b>, 2.21 60ft, 3,440 raceweight, using <b>OEM</b> Equipment. <br />\'98 L67/M49 w/ 134,000 miles before spun bearing. \"<i>It\'s all stock, Baby</i>!\"
Abe got back to me today and told me that they got rid of it :( . Which I thought so anyway since I got it done over 5 months ago, but it was worth a try.
Yes, I meant Spicer. Not sure of the part number of the stock one. Perhaps you could even use the one from your stock driveshaft?
Like I said, if you get the u-joint put back in, I'll help you install it no problem. It's not that hard to do with a little elbow grease .
Chris, i guess this proves it. your shaft really is big. i'm glad you graduated from playing with your shaft. it really wasn't healthy. just remind Jamie to wash his hands after touching it.
