  • Geez, too much for gears and lsd

Its gonna be about $1000 for my gears and lsd, and labor for the installation. Its an Auburn differential, and I'm gonna have 3.42s installed. The rest isn't bad, but the Auburn lsd is $350.00!!!!

Didnt think it would be that much. I'm gonna get them anyway though, because I can't turn back now. Just made a $350.00 deposit and ordered the parts. Its gonna take a week for them to come in though because they have to get the lsd from California. The guy at the shop kinda looked at me like I was weird when I told him I have a V6 LMAO.

What's wrong with him? I bet he owns a Toyota. Besides our cars without nitrous or a SC can get into the high 14's, (actually faster, i think, maybe mid) which is not slow in my opinion. We're talking Mustang Gt territory.

I spent around $1K for my LSD and 3.73s and IMO it was well worth it! Car is way quicker and funner to drive! Other than nitrous I don't think you can get any better SOTP difference for the money.

yah I just checked all the shops in town and the cheapest quote I got for the install of the lsd and 3:42 gears is 540 bucks. Which is th elowest in a spectrum of as much as 690 dollars. Im a little dissapointed but I really want those damn gears installed.

Yeah, you do get what you pay for. I won't ever give my car to just anyone. Its gonna cost a lot, but it will be well worth it when I'm on the street smoking stock fox body Mustangs LMAO.

I dunno about any of the other shops around, but I know why the dealerships are more expensive =) ne way6s the shop im going to has been around for 70 years, and has a great rep throughout the car clubs down here so im really not too worried. But yes allot of the time you do get what you pay for, in moderation though because some places are jst trying to rape you.

540 for a LSD/gear install is a major rip-off...it takes 5.5-6 hrs to install adn set of gears adn at the shop rate of $50/hr, your spending 240 more than you should!

well the car is under the knife as we speak, 250 for installation, fluids, and bearings/shims/install stuff. 250 including the bearings seems pretty good to me. But oh well no sense inworrying about it now, since its already being done.
