I have had what I assume is a bad transmission mount for a little while now. I just ordered a poly trans bushing to put in. I have instructions on how to replace the entire mount, but how does the old mount and new bushing work together? Can anyone give me instructions to figure this out? Also, will just replacing the bushing solve my problem (trans bouncing around when shifting hard or hitting large bumps)?

well first off the poly mounts aren't an exact fit for our cars.. you must modify the cross member to make it work. The slot on the cross member must be elongated toward the front of the car by about a half an inch.. also it's a good idea to go ahead and open the hole up as the bolt that comes with the new mount is going to be fatter than the hole, this will add ease to the installation..
Second. the poly mount causes the transmission to drop 1/2 inch... this is going to throw off your pinion angle and cause some vibration.. a good way to remedy this is to get some steel plates fabbed up to use as spacers and raise the transmission to the stock height. some have decided to use washers personally I don't like this approach because I feel it puts too much stress on the bolt.. (btw I have the plate between the mount and the cross member once again that's just preference) but it's your car do what you want.. another thing about dropping the tranny with a manual is there is a distict possibility that you stock shifter will hit the console and not go completely into 2nd and 4th gears.. if you raise the tranny back to stock height the problem goes away.. or you can get an aftermarket short throw shifter..
last but not least.. your shifter is still going to move some no matter what kind of mount you use as the rear end is connected directly to the transmission via the torque arm and bumps are sent through the transmission..-Brad

He has the Ripper Shifter I believe. He should be ok. I raised my tranny back up to stock height though. Once you get the mount and open the box you will see what needs to be done when you get under the car. Its easy to do.
Also - Its going to vibrate like CRAZY when you first install it. Kinda cool, but you might not like it. It gradually goes away, but it will always vibrate more than stock. Just a heads up.1997 Chevrolet Camaro v6 - 13.8@104MPH
