• LSD/Gears install soon...some ???s

OK guys...finally got the $$$ and have all the parts ready. SLP LSD, Motive 3.42 gears and ring. Already made the appointment at the gear shop for the install.

Unfortunatly, they don't do anything about recalibrating the shift points/speedometer. I'd have to go to a seperate shop to have that done. And the other shop is closed for the week...

Basically how much am I in for and what exactly will they be doing? ARGH...this gear/LSD swap better be worth it!

I am in the same boat. I had my 3.73s installed and my speedo is off by 25-30mph!! As I understand it, we're gonna have to shell out some $$$ for a Jet SCU :( I thought the speedo was something you could just program, but I guess thats not the case.

Wow...well, I just called a bunch of places and even a few dealerships. Looks like most places are quite a few $$$.

I really want to get this done but geez...I'm guessing the least hassell for me is going to be to buy a Hypertech, use it once then probably sell it on eBay or something.

So my new question is...Hypertech, just plug in...reprogram and the speedometer, shift points, etc should be good to go?

      Thanks guys!

Check with SLP, they sell a speedo recalibrator. It's not cheap, but it beats some of the other options if you're just looking to fix the speedo.

Wow...OK, just realized no Hypertech for a 1996.

If I just get the SLP speedo recalib., how hard is it to install and will the shift points be affected going from 3.08s to 3.42s while the computer still thinks it has 3.42s?

Thanks guys...I'm almost ready to call this project off. :(

Another option would be to get the pcm reflashed with a valid Y87 vin from the same year, by a dealer. I told someone my '98 vin a while back so they could get their pcm set up for 3.42's as if it had come stock with them.

from what i heard, you cant just buy a HPP3 and reprogram your car, then sell it. You have to put everything back to stock before selling. Think about it, if it were this easy HPP3's would be cheap as sh!t cuz people would just use them and then sell them or lend them to people with the same setup.

I've suspended/put the whole LSD project on hold because I can't find any place that can reflash the PCM or fix the whole speedo/shift deal. :(
