ok well at least you got the gears. to check for the diff, jack the both back wheels off the ground, spin 1 if the other spins the same way you got the diff 2, if it spins opposite you dont..... good luck

the 2000+ commonly come with the posi and the 3.42 gears. Not all came with the LSD some just came with gears. Check and see if you see G80 on the code list if so you have LSD. The jacking the car up and seeing if one wheel spins doesn't work BTW.

With the torsen jacking the car up and spinning the wheels doesn't work - like he said above.

G80 and GU6 are the only important codes for automatics.

Doesn't always work either. Sometimes with LSD only one will spin not very often. It also works the exact opposite too.

ask seal. I did a burnout and squealled and did all that. Left two big fat tire marks. LSD does let both spin. :D

the point of posi is to have the same amount of power on the rear wheels, if I am wrong correct me, so if u peel out and you have 2 tire marks, u have posi, if u dont u most likely dont have posi, or u have posi that i have never seen before :D

who would buy a 'LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL' if only one tire spun every now and then...wouldn't that be an oxymoron, i mean, wouldn't that cancel out the 'LIMITED SLIP' part?

i mean, i have got TCS which makes both tires spin every now and then, so why would i want to get a lsd if it does the same thing the tcs does?

uhh TCS has nothing to do with LSD. TCS senses loss of traction and backs off the throttle of the car on the V6s and on the V8s it also applies the back brakes.

Now on the part of sometimes only one tire spins. You guys are thinking of a locking rear end not an LSD. A locking rear end puts equal amounts of power 2 each wheel. Where as an LSD only transfers power when a wheel slips. The one tire spining doesn't happen very often but the best person to talk 2 about this would be Stephen. He has the LSD and off the line leaves 2 marks and the he goes to 1 just cuz the LSD doesn't work after that.

With a torsen you will only guarantee yourself 2 marks if you have some traction giving force underneath the wheels or you gently apply the brakes during the burn - the torsen works off of force against the wheels, so on a flat sheet of ice you're really no better than you were with an open differential until you apply your brakes (this is a hummer trick).

My previous firebird had the GU6 gears without the G80 code, and so it actually had 3.42 gearing without a limited slip - the dumb dealer ordered it that way thinking he was getting everything the y87 offered even though he wasn't! So just because you have the gears doesn't mean you have the posi...

The ice actually applies enough resistance to engage the LSD.
