  • wanting more topend.. do i need to go to a smaller gear

right now . i have the y87 package with the factory 3.42. i also have a yank 3000 converter. like my gears. but i'm trying to obtain higher traps. i also do alot of highway driving and i don't like getting walked by cars while racing cause the topend is not there.

I wouldn't change them 3.42s is the mid point... I had more power top end with my stock 3.23s.... bvut over al my 1.4 was a tenth faster....

Bor the money to downgrade to 3.23s... you could make up the difference adding mods to give you more power, without hurting your 1.4 mile times...

Trap speed is more a function of horsepower than gearing so for more top end you need to do more modding.

with my stock 3.23s I think I hit 88 mph a couple times if I remember correctly. Then I trapped 86ish with 3.42s and lt1 driveshaft.

so abotu a 2 mph loss so if you go down I guess a 2 mph gain? not much I think the moeny and energy of downgrading will cost more money in the end then its worth. HP mods would be better. In my opinion of course... I think 12secondv6 decded 3.23s were best for his setup but he is trappig well over 100 mph.
