  • Installing Backing Plates and Rear Brake Parts

I have a rear end that I am getting ready to swap into my car, but all the brake parts were off of it when I bought it. I ordered an ls1 rear brake kit from speedauotmotive and it came with the backing plates and all the other necessary brake parts. How in the world do I install the backing plates? Do the axles have to be pulled out? Is there a diagram of how the rear brakes are assembled so I can see how the calipers are mounted and backing plates go on?
    Please help!
    Thanks!

Yes, the axles have to be pulled out in order to get the Backing Plates removed. Once the axles are out, there are Four (4) Bolts that are 9/16" that have to be removed. You'll also need two Emergency Brake Cables for Disk Brakes, the Drum Brakes have a totally different connection near the back of the car.
Ok, I have the 93-97 rear and the backing plates are connected at the two bolts closest to the BACK of the car. My calipers are mounted at the rear part of the rotors.
If you like, Email me and I'll send you pics.
