plz tell me if you can think of ANYTHING more i might need besides these for my 3.42/lsd replacement from stock:

    -LSD
    -2 new pinion bearings
    -3.42 gears
    -1/2 jegs kit
    -reluctor wheel
    -pinion nut
    -oil
-a gun to shoot myself with when i get my car taken apart and realize i forgot to order one part from slp and i have to wait 3 years to get it.

i don't think i'm leaving anything out, but i could be...

btw, you say something about a red lock tite on your gear installation guide page...wtf is that and do i need it?

Keep it all in one post.

    http://www.camarov6.com/ubb/ultimate...&f=23&t=000916

You don't have to order anything from SLP other then Torsen. Red locktite keeps the nut from unscrewing and prevents leaks through the threads.

I just had mine done, and the only thing the shop needed extra was the pinion seal, because mine looked pretty worn. Cost me an additional six bucks. Bearings that came with the LSD was fine. That means everything else was reused (including the wrong reluctor ring), I bet that red stuff is probably all you're gonna need.

well that sux, that's is the ONLY thing i don't have. so they didn't use your red locktight over again...or by "red thing" do you mean the pinion seal??? my car has about 64k on it too, so i want to just go ahead and replace things like bearings and such just cause i know they aren't in the best shape now. but you think i can go without the locktight?

Man, I wish I could help you. I don't know what color the pinion seal was. I never heard it referred to as a locktight though. I thought the locktite ya'll were talking about was like some hardening silicone or something. Sorry if I'm wrong.

all i wanted to know was what red stuff you were talking about? i figured you meant pinion seal since you said that's all that needed to be replaced on yours...but i don't really know. were you talking about some other red thing?

When you mentioned locktite, I figured you were talking about some kind of hardening silicone. I'm almost sure that's what Dom is talkin' about.

Just looked it up. It is a hardening compound for screw backouts. Get that anywhere.

...Well, it ain't silicone, but here's a link about it.

Oh yeah, pinion seal is a part. Good luck.

They couldn't have reused the reluctor wheel. It wouldn't fit. That's if you're going from 3.08 to 3.42. You must have went from 3.23 to 3.42.

Red locktite you can find anywhere. Even walmart. It's a small tube of hardening compound so your nut doesn't back out like AMinor said.

oh ok thx, that's a load off. man, i'm wondering if i should back out on this whole thing now. i mean, my car has 64k miles on it, and some would consider this old, not too mention this summer i've had spark plug wires go out, and oil leak, and now i think my front end is out of line. so i'm wondering if maybe i should just not put the money into the car cause it might not be worth it. i mean, what do you really think...is the $600-$700 i'm putting into this project really going to be a worthwile modification or will i look back at it at the end of the summer and say "jeez, i wish i didn't spend that money"? plus, i don't really know why i want a faster car...i guess just those random every now and then times when you pull up next to a car who thinks he's something else and you show him. this is probably a dumb reason, no?

I have 67k on my car and it pulls very hard. I think as long as the motor is strong and you plan on keeping the car, I wouldn't worry about it. Today's American engines are designed very well (because of Japanese and German influence) and should hold up quite nicely with decent maintenance. I think that before you do something big inside of the engine (pistons, cams, etc.) or bolt on a supercharger or somethin' you might want to weigh the condition of your engine first. That's what I'll do if I decide on a supercharger. If I go with a supercharger though, I might just decide to rebuild or buy another motor. I think rockers and head work wouldn't necessarily require a rebuild however, just a solid engine.

Go ahead. Slap them gears in there! You're gonna love it. No more strugglin' in city traffic. No more unnecessary downshifts because you wanna go faster, city or highway. Do it!
