  • manual trans fluid fill

I am sure there is a fill plug but I want to have an idea what I am doing before I put it up on stands(install docs would be big help). Also would this cause an occasional grunting noise when putting into gear?

You're fill plug is on the passenger side. Get a 3/8" drive, and short extension, it fits right inside to unscrew. You'll need a pump to drain it, and (to make it easier) fill it too. Try to keep the car as level as possible when you are filling it with Dextron III. Fill it up until it starts to lightly pour out of the trans. It supposed to be filled right up until it's level at the bottom of the plug hole.
I had problems with my trans shifting too. I had almost 60k on the original fluid, and it was getting harder to shift into gear, and grindind like crazy. I was planning a new clutch job, so I first went to Jiffy Lube to have the fluid changed. I drove it home, and to my amazement the car shifted beautifully like it was new again.
If you want to save the mess, go to a lube shop. Cost me about $30.00 alltogether.

you can also take the shifter off and pour transmission fluid in like that.

Its got a drain bolt and a fill bolt.

Undo the fill bolt, then the drain bolt, and drain it like engine oil. You'll need 4 quarts of whatever dexron III you prefer (I like the Mobil 1 and the Valvoline).

If you dont have a pump you can buy some 3/8" tubing and a bottle of 75W-90 (to get the cap) and unscrew the cap off the gear oil and slap it on top of the ATF bottle - itll screw on fine. Then take your piece of hose and rubbertape it onto the spout after you cut it, and run it up into the fill hole. Be sure the drain plug is installed. Squeeze and roll each bottle and push the oil right into the tranny :D

When it starts to overflow from the fill hole you're done and you can install the fill plug.

The other way is to disassemble the console a little and pour it in through the shifter I hear - I might try it next time.

I also recommend doing it on ramps, not jack stands, if at all possible... theyre a LOT safer.
