Alrite I was just wondering I have a '98 Camaro with the Y87 performance package, with the LSD and 3.42 gears.Its automatic. I was wondering when racing from a stop would it be best to leave it in overdrive, out of overdrive, or manual shift ( 1-2-overdrive)

My dad said it would be best to manual shift for track racing and out of overdrive for on the street. Hes been a mechanic for a long time and works at Roush Racing...but hes used to 600+rwhp cobras not 3.8L v6 camaros lol [img]smile.gif[/img] I searched but didnt come up with the exact answer...little help pls?

i dont think theres a difference between drive and overdrive at WOT. dont manually shift though. this has been discussed alot. im sure searching youd get alot of threads on it. just leave it in drive/overdrive and go, shouldnt make a difference.

There is no benefit from "manually shifting" your stock A4 trans. Your stock computer controls all of the shift points. Leave it in Drive or Overdrive, there is no difference when you are at full throttle (since the trans won't shift into OD at full throttle).

maybe he recommends manually shifting because he is used to themustang auto's. Manually isprolly faster for them.

In a related topic, I have a '99 Camaro with the 5-speed trans, and I was wondering what is a safe amount of RPMS to keep it at when simply cruising. It seems around 1700 is good, but i'm not sure, sometimes i'm as low as 1500. There is also some hesitation right after a shift, with the first and second gears. It kind of "bounces" through about 2300 RPMS.
