  • Diagnose my clutch problem!

    So guys look for input...

    Backround of my clutch situation.

    2000 Camaro with 52,000 miles

When the car had 7,000 slave cylinder failed killed the clutch, throughout bearing and flywheel. All replaced.

Last few months I have had burnt clutch fluid problems. Its possible when I fixed it the first time I used an inferior fluid.

Well recently it got bad, clutch was slipping horribly, even if I floored it in 2nd.

Then I drained it out, best I coudl, then refilled with Synthetic DOT5, and flushed it through pretty well.

I worked on getting the air out with a mighty vac, the clutch pedal even feels a little better now. Clutch grips much much much better. But still has a little slip. But later after running the car hard, the clutch started gripping great, even to the point of dead on.

So what do you think my problem is?

Air still in the lines, since I emptied it best I coudl before I refilled it? I been getting alot of air out even after I thought I got it all.

Clutch is dead, it has 45,000 miles on it, but they have been kinda rough.

    Hydraulics problem? Slave again?

Any help appreciated. I might go the exact way of bleeding without the mighty vac and see if results are better but it seems every time I bleed with the mighty vac its gets a little better but coudl be in my head.

You see, I was thinking that too... Thing is I don't see any signs of leaks. I'd assume the fluid woudl leak out and/or I would lose pedal pressure. But actually my pedal is a little stiff(not harsh, but seemed like it was lighter)

If you haven't changed your fluid. Do it... Solved my problems for like a year.

it could be be a bad seal within the slave cylinder?

i did do it once, but im going to do it again in the next couple days. i have been following a few of your post abuot this. i have been thinking about just getting a spec clutch or dual friction. but there so much money and then you gotta do the slave and yada yada. im going to be going to the track towards the end of the month hopefully, so i hope another flush will do the trick.

                I was wondering that too...

I'd love to just tear everything out and replace it all with new stuff...

maybe I will do it, might have somone interested in my Zr1s... and he woudl give me his stockers(not that I don't have 2 sets of wheels in the garage or anything)

another symptom I noticed. If I hook the vacuum pump to the inlet in the resovoir and I pump it, I get nothing, even halfway up the guage, now if I go crazy and max the guage out, I will start getting air bubbles. Is it possible that its a bad seal and I am sucking air in?

How difficult is it to replace the slave? alone.

also costs and any sort of aftermarket piece I can go to?

the slave itself is not so bad of a job...

the biggest pain in the *** is gett'n the tranny out and back in.

ouch... so I have to pull the tranny?

I was hoping I wouldn't have to... I can see it sort of when I go to the bleeder valve.

yea.. it slides out of the bellhousing towards where the input shaft is... so the tranny's gotta go

..at least.. thats the way i've done it

thats the only way of doing it that i know of, im pretty sure you cant get it out without pulling it.

yea you have to drop the trans to get at the slave.

right after i changed my clutch master cylinder, i bled the line. then of course went for a drive. nothing harsh, very easy on the car ( i dont know how to drive a stick, im teaching myself ) so then the next day i had to move my car becuase my brother was coming over with his truck and dirtbike. well it didnt wonna go into reverse, i had to pump the clutch a few time, then it went in with out any problems.

so i bled the system again. so far so good but i still dont drive it becuase i cant ( legally) but ive moved it in/out of the front yard and drive way a few times.

there could be a pin size hole thats letting air in i soposse. keep bleeding it. i had to bleed mine 5 times untill the pedal felt good. my car wouldnt even go into gear, at all. the slippage might just be because its dead, i dont know this is confusing.

EDIT: you said after driveing the car hard it was better, was it hard to go into gear when you first started it? maybe trying pumping it, to build up pressure kinda. keep us updated ill be happy to help as best i can.
