  • Project car... Manual to Auto

Got a project car, it's a 5spd, and I wanna go automatic for the set up.

My question is... Will a stock 3.8 A4 hold up to about 350 hp??? Is it the same 4L60E that the v8's have? I need specific information and not "i think."

Also, can someone direct me in the right to direction for the wiring info?

yea its the same as the v8 ( almost 100% sure )so it should hold 350 hp with out a problem.

the A4 handles more torque than the m5.

the m5 seems underbuilt for the ls1.

the m5 is underbuilt for the LS1 because they dont use it, they have a completely differnt mannuel, but im pretty sure they have the same automatic

You might wanna check into the internal tranny aswell because I do think there are some clutches different and such... I know the A4 IS capable of ATLEAST 320 HP though...

Put a shift kit in a 4L60E along with upping the pressure by about 5-10 psi and it will hold 350 hp all day long. The number 1 killer of 4L60E tranny's is the 1st to 2nd shift. Its the hardest shift there is for the tranny and its extremely hard on the 2nd clutch band. Adding a corvette 2nd clutch band servo would probably hold really well in an unmodified 4L60E. My weapon of choice however if you really want it to hold some power, add a corvette servo, put in a shift kit to reduce shift time in order to reduce slipping of clutches and bands while they change gears, and also up the pressure by turning up the force motor about 1/4-1/2 turn which is what ive done to mine. If you want more details about the force motor let me know. I can give you detailed instructions on this.
