  • Help ASAP Please, tranny mount

    My car is at the tranny shop getting a rebuild right now. They called and said the stock tranny mount fell out in pieces. Obviously it needs to be replaced. He said the dealer wants $200 but he can get it for like $140 or something. I did a quick search and at ftpp.net a poly mount is like $25. What gives? I've got an automatic. Will I need the washers or any other mods to the crossmember? Please let me know so I can tell the shop exactly how I want it done.

    The poly mount is a great upgrade for your vehicle. I wouldn't even try messing with getting a stock one. I know with the manual transmission you do need to add some sort of spacer but I'm not sure about the automatic.

    You will have to modify the crossmember to make the poly mount work. It's pretty simple--consists of elongating two holes with a drill or dremel.

      Thanks for the input 98 3.8.

      Can anyone tell me for certain whether or not I will need the washers to make it work. Keep in mind I have an A4.

      I'm gonna pick up the mount from Auto Zone on the way home and take it by the shop for a test fit, but the tranny is off the car and I told them I need to drill the crossmember to make it fit. They don't even wanna touch it so they said I can drill it and they will take it off the car for me (so i'm not in the bay). But, if it's off the car, I don't think i'll be able to tell exactly where it's going to line up when it's put together.

      Ugh! Anyway, if someone can tell me about the washers i'm sure I can figure out the rest. Thank you.

        yes, you will need to stack about washers to make up the almost 1/2" height difference between the old and new mount.

        drill a hole centered about 1/2" to the front of the hole in the stock crossmember, then use a file to clean up the area so its a nice slotted oval.
