I GOT MY 3.42S TODAY!!!

they're pretty freakin sweet...3.42 makes a diff in launches for sure, on top end it seems a little the same, but maybe it's better? i don't know...you have to have a big power difference to really be able to feel the diff. i don't think my speedo is off much at all...my friend drove beside me today and i was showing 75 and he was showing 71...doesn't that seem a little strange? if someone could tell me what's up with that i'd appreciate it. and my shift points do not seem to be off any whatsoever--i still shift into 2nd at about 5800 and into 3rd exactly at 5500--and i've been WOT all day long [img]smile.gif[/img] but dom or someone with experience, is it possible to only be off by this little with the speedo when going from 3.08s to 3.42s? thx.

I have 3.42's from 3.08's and my speedo was off by really close to 10% across the board so you going 75 should = out to about 67.5 no 71 but not too far off anyways.

Also do you have different size rims/tires than original? that can also make a speedo differance although not as drastic as a gear change.

my shift points were the same at WOT when I had mine changed but it seemed like it hung around 4K before shifting when I was not at WOT.

I installed my 2nd scu2000 a few days ago(first one was bad) and I've almost got it tweaked out to the shift points I want with it now!

ya, my speedo is not off by 10% i don't think, unless we were just having a hard time staying together and we just read it wrong. and i don't have a problem with my shifts ever...they all shift at good points--they don't seem any different than what they were. the guy who did my gears said that the tone wheel (reluctor wheel) should be what the speedo and shifts read from--he said it isn't a cable and he said it is computuerized...but it's controled, along with the abs on the reluctor wheel. he said not all camaros/firebirds are like that...but he said he was pretty sure mine was. i don't know...is it NOT possible for me to be off on the speedo as little as i am? thx.

oh ya, and i have the reg 235 55 16 tires...and rims are stock as well.

i know for a fact that i gave the guy 3.42s, and i really don't think that he put in other gears besides those. i must just be paranoid...the speedo musta been off more than i think and i just could not tell. but when you got your 3.42s nachius was the difference like unreal, or could you just tell that the startoffs were better. i just didn't see a VAST improvement or feel one--a difference, oh hell ya, but nothing kind of like i was expecting--i guess i just played it way too far up in my head...i mean, i ran a best time of 14.92@98.4, and i'm pretty much stock besides that, so i think that would mean i've got the 3.42s and the guy didn't jip me or anything. it's also possible that i'm just a moron. you agree???

well if no one else will, i will agree with myself. i just took my dad's truck out for a spin, an exact SIX MILE SPIN and i even marked the spot in the road where the truck turned over 6 miles with a nearby stick. then i got in the ole maro and drove the EXACT same 6 miles and at the EXACT same stick in the road, i rolled over 6.65ish miles. so, that's almost exactly 10% off. and the change from 3.08s to 3.42s is 10% off with the speedo and the odo, right? or is the odo any different than the speedo being off...cause i know the speedo is supposed to be off by 10%, but that would be absolutely moronic if the odo were off any different--not to mention, it wouldn't make sense.

ok i bought some 3.42s but the mechanic said that my stock arenot much different since i have a m5 the auto has 3.08 and my manual 5 speed has i think 3.28 and it turns out that those gears are for camaros with 3.08s not for mine so now im stuck with the gears any one want to buy

Some people say that there isn't a lot of difference between 3.23s and 3.42s. Going to the 3.42 should give you about a 6 percent increase in acceleration. If you sell the 3.42s, I would still get an LSD. You should read a few posts and see if you might want to consider 3.73s since you have a manual. Then see if someone will trade. Someone always has some in the for sale section. An aluminum driveshaft would be nice too. So many choices. [img]smile.gif[/img]
