but im just wondering if my car can handle 4.10 i felt a diffrence with 3.73 but not as much i had stock 3.42 so it wasnt a big up my work is only 3miles away and i do like 60 miles 3 times a week maybe ill go a good 100 miles once a month so i dont know if 4.10 will over do it. or should i just stick to 3.73 thanks guys

well i just stick with my 3.73 i was reading Modifications Encyclopedia and said 4.10 are way to much for just bolt on stuff i will just fly flat on my face on top end and is just best to use it with nos or supercharger and turbo charger to cover it up on top end

top end is awesome with 4.10s! The only reason it may be bad for you is because youre an automatic and your final gear is huge.

Your acceleration will be way better until you get to your final gear (as with any automatic no matter the gears) BUT since you have 4.10s you will get to the final gear quicker so your top end might be compromised a little but I don't know. Need someone with first hand experience to chime in.

from 60-100mph there is a major loss with 4.10s huh

The "final gear" in an auto is almost identical to that of the M5. The auto is a .70:1 and the manual is either .72:1 or .73:1 (I always forget which). In any case, this gear is an overdrive gear and is not meant for acceleration.

There is no loss from 60-100 with 4.10s, there is a gain. If you feel there is a loss, prove it.

^^ what he said. I feel no loss whatsoever. What I was saying about an a4 MIGHT have some loss is because there is such a big difference between 3rd and 4th gear (in terms of size). With 4.10s an auto will get to 4th gear alot quicker so they MIGHT see some acceleration loss in the top end. Since the 5-speed has an extra gear you get put into final gear at alot higher rpms than an auto AND the gear is slightly smaller.

Any numerically higher gear will out accelerate a numerically lower gear in any gear at any speed up until the top speed of the car which with 4:10s is theoretically ~150mph.

why do the new Ford GTs come with 3.23s?

Because it's a street car, so they gave it street-friendly gears. There's no way around it, lower gear = more acceleration. period.
