  • Rebuilding the 4l60e transmission?

I'm considering rebuilding my 4L60E and putting in a performance rebuild kit (supposedly tougher cluthches and bands) The tranny still runs great and shows no sign of wear, but its getting rather old mileage wise (155k). Any ways I was wondering if any body here has actually rebuilt their own transmission and if so how hard was it? Can you do it all by just removing the pan or do you have to drop the entire tranny? I'm not that much of a mechanic, I've never done any car repair that involved some thing as elaborate as swapping engines, or removing transmitions so I am rather reluctant.

if you've never tackled a project like that before, its best left to a pro. You've got a working tranny right now, I wouldnt beef it up until you start having problems. make it last as long as you can.

Thanks alot, I figured it would be outta my league, oh well I guess I'll wait for it to start slipping before I start thinking about performance clutches and bands.
