  • Vette Servo

I have read many posts that talk about the Vette servo. It seems like a lot of people are doing this mod., but i don't even know what you guys are talking about when you say servo! What is a servo? What does it look like? What does it do?
I know from reading a number of posts that it firms up the 1-2 shift in the automatics right?
But i haven't found anything telling me what a servo is.
Are there any other advantages to installing the Vette servo? Is it ok to put one of these in a stock tranny with 50K?!

I thank you guys in advance for your time!

No easy answer to your questions, because as you've noticed auto tranny's are rather complex in ways. But there is a hub in your tranny that holds some clutch packs. Then around that there is a 2-4 band that clamps down on the hub in certain shifts, stopping the hub, and alowing it to shift. The servo assembly is what pushes on the 2-4 band, so bigger servo = firmer press = firmer shift. It's easy as hell to put in, and a worthwhile investment. I got a raptor assembly for about $90 at http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4L60E.htm, you can get the vette servo's there for a lot cheaper too if you wanted to, but you get what you pay for. If your gonna put the servo in go ahead and install the trans go shift kit as well, you can get those at ftpp.net. Hope that helps.

I got a brand new 1-2 corvette servo off ebay for under $20, and every now and then you can find the 3-4 servo, but they're more expensive, around $60 or so.
