if i get 3.42's in my 01' bird.... do i need to get a new limited slip differential or will the slp 3.42's work with the stock setup... i'm not sure wuts in there now 7.10's maybe ???? anyway i just need to know if the new ls differential is totally necessary or optional... please help

I recommend starting off with a search. You'll see this is a common question that's been answered dozens of times.
If you have 3.23s now, you won't need a new diff (although it'd be smart to get an LSD).
If you have 3.08s now, you will need a new diff.
Check the RPO codes to see what you have. M5s come with 3.23s. A4s come with 3.08s or 3.42s.Matt
