• T-56 from 5 speed

Anyone out there ever cram a T-56 in back of a 3800? Are there any kits out there? Kieser will do it, but they want $3,000. Or maybe mot a 6 speed, how about a Tremec? Long story short I want to keep it stick (takes less power to turn than an automatic) but I need it to hold about 500 LB.FT. of torque. So the World Class seems out of the question. Any tips??????????????????

No one has ever gotten a t-56 to work. The tremac isn't much better than the borg warner or whatever its called that we have. Both are rated to 300 ft lbs. World class would be the only other option i think.

So is the G-Force kit would most likely be a good idea? It seems that that will allow the Borg Warner to hold somewhere around 500 lb ft according to some.

This is kind of an ongoing issue in the FI forum. Hopefully you'll find a good resolution

Spohn sells a kit for the 3rd gen the bolts to our car i'm getting it

heres the email they sent me:

Hello

I know for 100% that the 3-gen bell housing is the exact same as my
bell housing on my 1997 3.8L camaro……. Even the depth is the same…….

So if I where to buy this kit would it work? I mean I would need the
drive shaft you offer? ( v6 and V8 drive shafts are the same for the
4th gen) crossmember and TQ ARM?
Any info will help Thanks
Andrew

their reply:

Well, yes and no. The T-56 swap as you said should be no problem.

The driveshaft is no problem.

The torque arm/crossmember kit we make is designed to fit the 82-
92 chassis, not the 93+ which is completely different in that regard.

Our chassis mounted torque arm kits for the 93-02 cars will allow you to install any transmission you want....but you would be on your own for the transmission crossmember.

so yes it is possible to do but you have to buy a Tq arm that bolts to our frame and not the tranny or cross and its going to take a custom cross member too....... i'm doin this this winter..... also i was told this tranny will hold 700 TQ

Do they send you the bellhousing? 3800 and 305 do not have the same bellhousing bolt pattern that bolts to the engine. I thought they just gave you an adapter plate that went between the transmision and bellhousing, and you would use your factory bellhousing.

Here is a picture of an 80s 305/350 t-5 bellhousing. It is def not the same bellhousing to engine bolt pattern. But it seems like they send you a bellhousing to tranny adapter.

Sorry if you know all this, but I just dont want to see anyone waste alot of money.
