• Different clutch master cylinder 98-00 vs 01-02?(update possible solution)98-02 read

seems to be two seperate parts whats the difference?

Is there a advantage to a 01-02 over a 98-00 Like a flaw they fixed? I believe they fixed something on the v8 ones for 01-02 Is it the same for v6s?

Well guys, thanks to the help from Matt, and some research on my own... think I answered my own question. I'll try to post my findings for future prosperity!

In researching, we found that in v8s 98-00 had crappy hydraulics. They were later upgraded in 01-02 with better Master and slave.

also got this
v6 01-02 Master at GM parst direct
12565144
V8 01-02 Master at Gm parts direct
12570277

Different Part numbers for v6 and v8 but both for 01-02

But 98-00 the Master for V6 and V8 is the exact part!
v6 and v8 98-00 Master at Gm parts direct
12561178

So one would assume its the same sh|tty part, and it was upgraded in 01-02 just like the v8 but since its a v6 but maybe one slight difference in the part.

Also for what its worth, Gm #s for V6 Slave is
V6 slave 00-02
12565145

v6 slave 96-99
015046288

SOOOOOOOOOOO..... what I may assume on my 2000, since my the slave part # is same 00-02, but I have a different master as an '00, and the 01-02 is possible better, but looks compatible with a '00 slave... Not sure if its compatible with older slaves, may want to look into it.

I think I am going to go out and put a '01-02 master on my 2000.

hopefully all will be well and it fixes my car, but I won't be surprised if its my clutch just bad but want to do everything first.

v6 and v8 had different part #s for Master in 01-02.
My parts manual shows the 01-02 master for LS1s is 12565144, same as V6s. But the description on GM Parts Direct says that's V6 only....very strange.

Either way think it woudl be so bad to just pick one up from autozone, over GM? dealer quoted me $250, parts direct $130 to my door, but not looking to wait like a week.

Its expensive.

$120 shipped from GMpartsdirect.

$305 for the mcleod, not including shipping.

I went to the dealer and ask for 12565145 and I had another one from NAPA and I couldn’t figure out what the difference is??
Both of them looked the same , and the dealer said that 98 up to 02 listed as the same pn ?

I had two part numbers listed... Honestly check GMpartsdirect... dealer quoted me liek $208, gmpartsdirect was $130 to my door.

btw, no visual difference between my old and new one, but then again it looked the smae as the LS1 ones I say in pics.

As for mcleod adjustable, I been readin that alot of people have had problems of them needing rebuilds from the factory.

what about 98? I have new slave , and the fluid turned to be gray like after 2 month after flash.

It's the master turning the fluid gray, not the slave.

BTW also read that covering the hyrdraulic line from the master to the slave helps prevent the fluid from going back.
