  • Tranny Fluid Additive?

I was reading on ls1tech that my torque converter shutter problem could be because at first the mechanic put in the wrong type of tranny fluid thus messing up the coefficeint of friction?? No clue but then he recommended that I change my tranny fluid and add in some time of tranny fluid additive to re-lubricate the converter as well as the tranny. What kind of additive should I get??

in general, additives are a bad idea for an automatic transmission. most that you see try to prevent leaks by swelling seals etc etc. once you use it, you will need to keep using it. however, in was in napa at one point and saw an additive that claimed it was a friction modifier for atf that was used by oem factory fills. when i changed my fluid i didnt use it. just put in dexron iii (valvoline durablend, -- i have heard that our transmissions dont really respond well to full synthetics). things seem fine w/o the additive.

i cant imagine what your mechanic could have used beside a dexron iii compatiable fluid. there is atf+3 for mopar's but it can be difficult to find a shop that thinks there is any difference in atf fluids. have you checked your level? perhaps its a bit low?
