• Has anyone ever heard a slave cylinder apply TOO much pressure?

I have officially gone through 2 different clutches now; 1 centerforce dual friction and 1 spec 3 stage 3. I have narrowed the problem down to the slave cylinder. For some reason, it is applying too much force on the throwout bearing lever which in turn applies pressure on the pressure plate when the car is in drive. I have tried different methods of bleeding the system to no avail. I also tried different length pins, shorter and longer.

i would have thought bleeding the system would have helped... dont know what to tell you except take it to a very experienced reputable shop. you might just have to replace it.

Yeah, I contacted spec. I already talked to them and they didn't have an answer about the slave cylinder. They told me that they don't normally rebuild the stage 3 either. The tech had asked me why I thought the clutch was slipping and I told him about my last dyno results were I only boasted 148hp at the rear wheels. When I sprayed it w/ a 100 shot, I only gained 1 more hp.
I purchased a new master cylinder and slave cylinder for the convert. I'm not really sure what I will do about it but I am pretty sure that I am done for the season. I guess the only part of this I am confused about is that half of the people I talked to said that there should be some freeplay between the throwout bearing and the pressure plate while others said that the throwout bearing should have no freeplay and even just a little preload. I will have to find a mechanical setup out of an 82-84 F-body so I won't have these types of problems.

I kinda had the same problems as you, the pressure plate was crapped out, weird.
My slave ate 3 clutches in less than 6 mos. I didn't trust my slave, cuz I had severe slippage issues. I replaced the clutch, slave, adjusted the pushrod length, and resurfaced the flywheel all at the same time. Problem fixed.
I know damn sure it was the slave, thought when I bought it the stock pushrod no longer worked, I dunno why, but it wasn't applying enough pressure so I had to lengthen it and now all is well.
Dunno if any of this info helps, but just sharing my experience.
