  • torque converter question

does a higher stall affect acceleration. the way i understand it, is a higher stall, say 3000, locks up at 3000rpm, now before 3000rpm is it helping or hurting acceleration? since the transmission is basically not in sync with the engine. is gas mileage REALLY badly affected with a higher stall?

i still get really good street manners with my tci ssf 3200. acceleration is affected in a good way and gas mileage is up to your right foot. get a tight convertor for good street driving.

When you say "tight converter" what do you mean. I'm really looking at getting one.

Call Texas Speed and talk to Trevor! He's driven/owned about every aftermarket convertor on the market. He can and will be glad to set you up with the right convertor for your needs.

tight meaning i really dont have to give alot of gas to get moving. a loose stall is what you hear in race car. takes alot of throttle to get moving.

well im prolly gonna either A. rebuild valve body $1300 or B. Sonnax P1780 fix for $350.. dunno what one i have to get done yet, but i got Trans Go Shift kit and vette servo to install also, and if i gotta rebuild valve body they will be replacing Torque converter.. with my mods what stall you think i should get for my street racer, year round car.

a 3000 stall would probably be about right, but there are other things to consider. Andre @ Edge Racing took my mod list and built the verter to suit, rather than an off-the-shelf TC. Not to put down any of the sponsors, but I was incredibly happy with Edge and would recommend checking them out.
