  • transmission fluid.....

hi everyone, i am planning to get a tune-up and some other things done at the mechanics, so i called and i asked if i could get the shift kit and servo installed in the transmission, he asked how many miles i have on the car, over 181,000, but i'm not sure if the previous owner ever had the tranny rebuilt or replaced. but anyway he said that if he changes the fluid and filter that there is a high risk that with the new high tech transmission fluids that it will cause it to slip and leak.
i know the manual says to only use dexronII with an auto but he said there is still is a chance that it will leak ans slip becasue it has so many miles.

should i tell him to use dexronII or should i not worry about changing it untill its absolutley neccessary because its been over 30,000miles but its not very burnt smelling and it is a little brown.

I wouldn't do a thing to that tranny. If you want to put the shift kit and servo, you might as well get a rebuild kit to go with it. Your mechanic is right, there is a very high risk that the tranny will slip with new fluid. Just one of many reasons why to have ALL of the fluids in the car changed on a regular basis.
