  • Just installed 3.73 & LSD

    Well folks finally it happend. Just got back from the shop and drove my baby home. New 3.73s and lsd off a camaro ss. Now.... I had 3.23s in my Camaro and thought that I would have a 10 mile per hour difference in my speedo (I did not reprogram my computer). I had my brother drive next to me and tell me what speed we were at. He was at 20 and I was at 25. 5 off!!! Does this strike anyone as an odd occurence? or is this normal? I thought I would be at least 10 mph off!

    Anywho, I will be hitting the track once the gears are broken in and yes, I will post times. My mods list got to big for the sig, so if anyone wants to know what I have, just ask. Thanks

    the slower you go, the less difference there will be, at 70 it will be around 10...

        your speedometer will be about 14% off across its range.

          Your speedo is 13.4% off. If you were showing 25 you were doing 21.6.

          Please note I serve this up from a dynamic IP so it may not always reside there. Although usually my IP stays the same for several months (until the dhcp lease expires).

            ^^^ right...the recalibrator i have for my 155 speedo probably worked for this (obviously i would flash the car for the ratio change because of the transmission blah blah blah...my case was just visual) ...it recalibrates the speedo for the desired ratio change...when i went from the 125 to the 155...it was like a...20% change i think?...something like that...and thats what i had to set it at...if you're not going to reprogram the computer...check out www.blackrobotics.com for their yellow box speedo recalibrator

                Well, its been a few days now, and I tell you what.... This is the best mod i did so far.

                what I have .....
                Dynomax ST muffler, underdrive pulley, k&n fipk, catco cat, paceSetter headers, NGK plat. spark plugs, new spark wires, BMR stb, 180 Thermostat,JetChip stage 2, Baja Beast Cam, 3.73 and Zexel Torsen LSD.

                By having the bigger cam, my top end is amazing with the help of the gears. I stay in my peak torque range. I am just itching to get the track!!!!

                One thing to remember, all the modes supplement one another. I opened up my car's breathing, and the got some power for the engine to turn harder.

                With both tires burning it up, I just simply LOVE IT!!!!!!!

                  I am contemplating either 3:42's or 3:73's after my cam install and rebuild this winter. Well, i guess you are proof that 3:73's work well with a 3.4. Any more feedback about the gears. hows the gas mileage, and also does your engine seem to rev high all the time?

                    So 3.73s are good, what about gas mileage, and other factors. does ur car shift bad , or is it turned for the gears?

                      Gas millage was not really hurt that badly. I would say it knocked off about 1 to 3 mpg. As for driving her, dang, first gear is like no other. With a Cam, the top end will definetly play a factor in this. You will need the top end "Ummphh." Being that i have a M5, my shifting has to definetly be quicker, but I would like to think that I am pretty quick, a short shifter would do me a whole lot better though.

                      Ok, here is the closest comparison I could think of when driving a 3.4L with 3.23s (M5) and a 3.4L with 3.23s (M5). My old first gear (3.23) is very similar to my new second gear (3.73). At 70mph in 5th gear, I am turning 2500 rpm. That was how it was in 4th gear with the 3.23s

                      Hope that helps... Having a strong top end will benefit you most by having 3.73s (NASTY CAM).
