• when it comes to putting in a new clutch...???

    i have some questions.

should i just go ahead and put in a new flywheel also?

me and my uncle are going to be putting in my new spec clutch very soon. he said that if it needs resurfacing you might as well replace it. because even just shaving off .040 could lead to problems.

he is a certified Master mechanic and runs his own performance shop. and has been a mechanic working on specifically GM cars for 30 years. (since he was 18 years old).

but i was looking at gmpartsdirect and a new flywheel is around 250 bucks. if i remember correctly.

is there any other place that would have them for cheaper?

do you think my flywheel would need resurfacing? its got 60,000 miles on it.

also, if any of you know. how much does the stock clutch assembly weigh compared to the spec stage 3?

I just saw a thread about some light aluminum flywheels being made by some company. If you are gonna replace it might as well do it light.

Just get it turned, you should be fine!
But you gotta do something, you cannot put it back in, as (i think) SPEC won't warranty it if it's not turned or new.

Yep, get it turned. It won't hurt it.
Lightweight flywheel is not always good for a drag application.

Don't forget that that extra weight can also be used as momementum...
