Exactly how high does the car need to be. Will I need any special tools? I got all the sockets and wrenches. I will get 2 24inch extensions soon. Do I really need that tranny jack adapter plate? Anything else? Thanks

Are you going to be doing this removal on the ground or do you have acces to a lift. If you are doing it on the groung you will need four jack stands and have the car at least a couple of feet of the ground so that you can slid the trans out. I have not personaly taken my tranny out yet but I do know that you will need at least a floor jack to drop the trans on to that way you don't have to use or rent a tranny jack. Hope this helps some. I hope you have a friend to help to because the trans is a little heavy.
To speed or not to speed that is the question.

Dom you might need a longer extension than 24" for one of the top bellhousing bolts. I had to make an extension by welding a 24" to a 12". Your best bet is to have someone with REAL skinny arms to get to them all. Some are easy but there are a few that are a pita, when i did my tranny to swap in my tc i had to get my buddy who is 100 lbs soak and wet and he still had to put vasoline on his arm because he got tore up so bad. Its pretty late so i cant think to good right now but as far as i remember you dont need any special tools. You might want to use a floor jack to let the tranny down thats what i did the first time. The second time my friend was taking the tranny down while i was working on taking the motor out and he just let the tranny rest on his chest and rolled out from under the car on the creeper, i dont recommend this :D he just wanted to be a tough guy. What are you having done to your tranny?

The 24" extension will be fine, but do make sure you have a universal joint at the end of it. I have LOTS of pictures from when I took my tranny out and swapped my clutch. I'll try to get them all posted. I planned on making a guide for removal, but I just haven't found the time.

I do recommend renting a tranny jack though. It's well worth the $30 or so it will cost to rent it. It's not too tough to take it down without a tranny jack, but putting it back up is a different story. Of course my car was only a foot and a half off the ground when I did mine. If you have more clearance, it might be easier to just use a floor jack.

i recently took out my tranny.its actually pretty simple.you will most likley need an air wrench and blowtorch for the crossmember that goes under your trans, and the air wrnech for the bellhousing bolts, for those top ones youll need a tricky combonation of extensions to reach them after you have disconnected the driveshaft and got those bellhousing bolts out youll need a friend or two to lower the trans.

If you use a floor jack to drop and raise the tranny, use it with a 2x4 or a piece of plywood, to keep from damaging the transmission pan. How high you want the car depends on how high your jack is. The higher, the better.
I did my swap on a Chevelle, which is the same basic set-up, but, of course, it sits a bit taller, and there's more room in the tranny tunnel. Don't worry, you'll have no end of fun getting it out :D .

Alright I finally got to start dropping it. I have a trans jack conversion thing. Will I have to remove anything like a starter? I know LS1s have to do that. Besides some electrical stuff and tranny cooler lines and 8 bolts is there anything else I can't see, but have to remove?
