• 4L60E tranny problems I think...

I was cruising main street the other night, went to race another camaro and I didnt get up and go like usual so I figured maybe I just got a bad start. I went and parked and then later when I started it, it wouldnt move when it was idleing so I gave it gas to go and it wouldnt move until it reached about 2500 rpm. I was getting worried that maybe my tranny is going bad or something but it was "acting" like it was a turbo and had to spool up to go anywhere. Then a couple of days later it was acting fine it would idle and actually move, but then today I was sitting in Mcdonalds and I moved it out of drive to nuetral to keep it from getting hot and all of a sudden when I put it back in drive it died. THEN it started acting wierd again.

Any Ideas or cures?

dont know what problem is or how to fix it but im sure i might know what the cause is:

4. B&M Electronic Shift Improver

just my opinion

Hmm it might actually be the electronics shift improver if the conections have come loose because if the connections are loose and causing the pressure solenoid in the tranny to see a really low voltage then there might be a low pressure situation in the transmission. That is if the pressure regulator works in this manner but I would say remove it and restore everything to the way it was and see what that does. If that doesnt do it then I would be willing to bet that you simply might have a clogged transmission filter or in a more worse case...valve body or tranny pump problems.

yea but what im saying is that the electronic shift kit messed up the tranny. my friend had one in his Trans am and it fried up his PCM. so i dunno.

Take off the elect. shift, and reboot your PCM, then test it.

The Electronic Shift Improver more than likely screwed your tranny...no way to fix it but rebuild. Everyone will recommend to stay away from those and get a real shift kit.

did you check your tranny filter yet? same type of thing started happening to me a while back and that was the problem. its good to get that checked every 10-15,000 miles. mine went 50 without a problem but then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

I went to reset my PCM and I looked in the fuse box by the door, and I didnt see a PCM BAT fuse all I seen was a PCM IGN fuse, so I looked under the hood and I seen a PCM fuse is that the PCM BAT fuse? well I turned my ignition the on position and took out the PCM fuse then took out the PCM IGN fuse left it out for about 5 mins then put them both back in and started it and I couldnt tell that anything happened. Did i do it right?

I will take the shift improver off and check the filter later today also.

How many miles is on the car? Has it been more than 35,000 miles since you change the transmission fluid and filter? Do you "race" often? These are all factors that can affect the life of the transmission.

Some people think the electronic shift kit hurts the transmission because it causes firmer shifts electronically. If this is true, then my question is this: Since one of the things a performance "chip" or performance programmer does is add firmer shifts electronicaly, does this mean they will destroy a transmission?
I have never heard of anyone complain about this.
Just something to think about.

(By the way, I have had an electonic shift kit on my car since 1997. 90,000 miles later, for a total of 117,000 miles, I have had no problems. (knock on wood)) Of course it is not turned on all the time.

Whoa dude!!!! It's just my opinion 'cause I'm really safety concious, from working with aircraft and all, next time you reset your PCM just disconnect the negative battery cable or both to be even more safe and then turn the ing switch and pull the fuse. I'd hate to hear about some one getting the s*** shocked out of them, even though it just tingles but not good on the electronics.

Anyways I'd suggest loosing the shift improver and change the filter and fluid. As far as the car stalling like it did and overheating, check the fuse boxes under the hood,Check to make sure your fan is coming on for your coolant. Stalling???? you may have a short?
