• Centerforce install: slave cylinder shot, flywheel shot

Looks like my $350 install job is going to end up costing $700-ish.

My car is in the shop right now for the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch install. The mechanic just called and said the flywheel is destroyed ($95 for a remanufactured cast iron), the slave cylinder is on its last leg ($150), and the rear transmission seal is leaking ($30).

While on the phone I did a quick search for "slave cylinder" and it looks like a lot of other guys have replaced this at the same time as the clutch... so I said go ahead.

    Urgh. Expensive.

But given that my stock tranny/clutch has 95,000 miles of 300+ ft-lbs of frequent racing on it, I'm not surprised. In fact, I'm very pleased to hear that otherwise the transmission seems to be in fine shape.

    But urgh. Expensive.

makes you feel any better, I trashed everything you mentioned with only 7k miles on the car But difference was it was dealership replaced. But my flywheel was salvageable to be resurfaced.

I just had a new clutch put on a few months ago. Went ahead and had them throw on the new slave cylinder also, just so I wouldn't have to worry about it later.

How much did you get charged? I think my labor rate is a bit high. $404 for all the labor plus $95 for the remanufactured flywheel plus $150 for the new slave cylinder plus $30 for the rear transmission seal.

New slave was $60, Labor was $260 total, and $40 to resurface the flywheel.
