• 3.73 Gear Install

I'm gonna be getting some 3.73's pretty soon, and with the install kit, is it something you can do yourself? I've seen a lot of people who went somewhere to have it done. I would like to do it myself, I just don't want to open it up and find out it was something I should have paid the money to have someone else do. Any thoughts?

if you've turned a few wrenches and know your way around a car i dont see why not, but since its your first time, i'd suggest having someone who has done it before, or find some real good instructions...

if you know how to set the backlash and make sure the gears are currectly set go for it, but i dont think you would want to attempt this if you have never done it before because you could possibly ruin a perfect set of gears

Gear install is up there on the very difficult side. There isn't that much to it, but it takes a lot of finesse. I would NOT recommend it unless you really, really know what you are doing.

the patterning has to be set just right and you are playing within 100ths of an inch of tolerance between a good install and one that is going to eat up the gears and needing to be redone with new parts. pay someone who knows what they are doing for this.

I think you need special tools to do it right too.
My dad has been a mechanic for over 30 years and he didn't even put the gears in my car, he said he was going to have to borrow a couple tools to even do it!! And he has THOUSANDS of tools!!

I'd recommend paying for it to be done... it cost me $120 for the install.
