I rebuilt my rear-end a year ago and went 3.42's because of the same concerns you have. I now have a built tranny and stalled converter as well. I also only put on 6k-ish miles per year. While I love the 3.42's, if I had to do it again, I would most likely drop in the 3.73 gears.

How do you have 3.23 ratio with an automatic? You should either have 3.08 or 3.42 (Y87)

I went from 3.23 to 3.42 in my 5-speed and it's a noticible difference. If I had paid to install gears though I would have put in 3.73 - the 3.42's I have came with the V8 rear I put in.

All 3.4s have 3.23s regardless of transmission. ;)

          Whoops, missed that one.

With 3.23's if I was paying to change gear ratio I would go for the 3.73

I went 3.42 only because they came in the rear along with disc brakes and posi, all for only $250.

okay...its been brought up before, many times again and again : tomorrow i finally have some time  to buy some gears. I have a 01 camaro automatic. I live in Los Angeles and average 10,000 per year which is good considering its Los Angeles. The average here is 15,000 per year. Anyway, i see that most like the 3.73 I don't care aout the gas milage, all i care is winning at the track. However, I know the 3.73 have some wear and tear into the engine should I still get them. What parts that are wearing and tearing?????? <<<That package that thunder racing sales is that worth it. Its about 300 bucks or they just want to make another sales. Screw it get the 3.42 or 3.70 for my auto
