  • Noises from the rear

Around 50,000 miles I noticed a whine type sound coming from the back of the car. I had the rear end oil changed a couple thousand miles later and they noticed excess metal shavings. Also, when going to reverse(auto) I hear two clunks and can feel it shake the car. Now at 56,000 miles the noise from the back is louder. From my understanding it is the gears or bearings. Is there any way determine which one it is and how much it would take to fix it?

    Thanks
    Matt

Same thing happened to my SLP take-off Zexel, at 70k miles it was too noisy to ignore.

Here's what I found when I pulled it out. Had to press new bearings on and change out the races.

Could be gears also but this should have been very apparant when the oil was changed.
