I used Mobile 1 gear oil when I installed the LSD. No problems at all. Matt

Both Mobil 1 and Redline 75W90 gear oil include friction modifier.
BUT...
The effects of the pre-added stuff is minimal.
ALL limited slip differentials should use GM friction modifier. A bottle is only like $6 from Thunder. Its in their drivetrain section.
For our cars we both have Zexel-Torsen T2's with 2 quarts Redline 75W90 synthetic gear oil + 1 bottle GM friction modifier.
As usual with lubricants, organic is for low-performance passenger cars, synthetic is for high-performance F-Bodies. For the few bucks more it costs and as rarely as you swap, there really is no reason to not use synthetic, either Mobil 1 or Redline.

From other thread:
From Torsen's FAQ page:
Is it true that the Torsen unit in the production Camaro needs the GM modifier added?
(cut)
When replacing the fluid it is at the owner's discretion whether or not to add the modifier.

It's only about $8 or $9 a bottle, even from a dealership, which is a drop in the bucket compared to the money I've put into my car. Whether someone says to do it or not, it couldn't hurt. So just do it and be done haha2000 3.8L Firebird, Silver Metallic

\"Yes, London. You know, fish, chips, cup o\' tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary f***in\' Poppins, London!!\"

ALL GM vehicles equipped with a limited slip differential should ALWAYS use a bottle of GM limited slip additive.

I will use syn oil in my engines, but I just do not trust the stuff in my diff or tranny. I have had some weird issues with the stuff.2003 Lightning 12.618@112.80
1996 Camaro Z28 11.751@115.96 MPH soon stupid fast!
1999 Mustang V6 15.36@90.92 MPH

1996 Camaro Z28 1999 Mustang V6 2003 Lightning

"Weird issues"? Mobil and Redline are the two premiere lubricant companies in the world. They have more chemists dedicated to constantly working on newer and better formulas than you can shake a stick at. They know what they're doing... and their fully-synthetic fluids are top-notch. They resist far more heat than organic, have a lifespan two to three times as long, and don't break down under extreme stress (like a burnout) like regular lubricants do.
