  • About a piece Driveshaft......

if i can get a 1 piece steel driveshaft out of a 96 Z for like 50 bux at a local junk yard, should i, or just wait and find an aluminum one on ebay for like 100 ish. by the way i have a 94 3.4, would this difference in weight really make that much of a difference?

A steel driveshaft is not an upgrade. Don't do it. If you're going to bother swapping out your driveshaft, do it right. A NEW 1LE aluminum driveshaft is only $210, hardly expensive as far as F-Body performance parts goes.

a steel 1 piece is an upgrade over a two piece just not as much as an aluminum one would be, its around 10 lbs lighter and less likely to break...

I agree with Stefan, If you are going to do it, do it right the first time. Wait if you have to and get the Aluminum piece. You wont regret it. Just an advice from an F-body to another.

watch ebay. there are always aluminum shafts up there. some time they go rediculously expensive, but if you watch long enough and get lucky, one can be had for under a C-note.

Important note to be made, the gmpartsdirect price for a new 1LE aluminum driveshaft is $220, which does not include the $44 shipping and handling charge which brings the total to $265 ish, definately not as cheap as ebay, but brand new. You pick!

Still cheaper than $360 + shipping for the RKSport 3" aluminum driveshaft or $700 for a carbon fiber.

New 1LE is the way to go.
