  • P1870 Code - can we get a recall?

Ok TCC lock up problem. 1-2 harsh shift

Ok i know this happens to a lot of us and we have to pay a lot to get it fixed. And especially me, I've already sent a letter to GM about this problem and they just told me theres no recall information for my problem. Well no $hit.. if there was I, along with how many of you, would already know of this and have it fixed already. But im wondering if there is a way that we can get a recall on this? How many people would it take to send letters out. Or does 100 people have to die from this problem first? Lets save some money for expensive repairs that we could not prevent, or get paid back for what we had to pay for GM's mistake.

    I'd sign it...

but I have to blame my valve body going out prematurely due to my dumbass removing the maf screen. I had no problems until I removed that screen...still had the surging problem after it got fixed...put screen back in and no more problems.

Regardless the guy at the tranny shop said it was extremely common for the aluminum valve body to wear out prematurely, and fluid would slip by and cause a loss in line pressure. The PCM would then try and compensate by increasing line pressure and throwing that code.

Did you make any tuning adjustments (specifically to the MAF tables) when you removed the screen? If not, then your PCM would be quite confused about the new amount of air the MAF is picking up....

Contact the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and encourage others who may have had the same problem to report it as well. If they get enough complaints about the same problem they'll investigate and work with the manufacturer to initiate a recall.

</font>[/QUOTE]I'd like proof that it makes that significant of an improvement. I have dyno numbers showing it gains about .5hp and loses around 1-3lb/ft of torque. That mod is worthless by my research and findings. I back my statements up with dyno numbers and track times. Not trying to attack you, but it is my opinion the !MAF mod is the most worthless mod you can do, yes outclassing the IAT mod.

Hi I have a 99' Firebird with the 4L60E transmission, and I'm having problems with my valve body right now, the transmission doesn’t feel damaged except for I threw a code not too long ago which is the reason why I went to get it checked out. The code was I guess the “Famous” P1780. TCC Valve lock-up. Transmission shops are wanting me to pay $1300 to rebuild my valve body, I don’t know how I’m supposed to be paying for that, especially when it’s a common problem, and again if this is happening on every vehicle from the factory and under 100,000 miles, why is it my responsibility to have to pay for that. There is nothing I could have done to prevent it even if I knew it was going to happen. I had my transmission fluid changed 7,000 miles ago and it’s already burnt up again. That’s $80 just for the transmission flush. That fluid shouldn’t have to be changed for another 23,000 miles. So obviously there is something wrong with the transmission. And a company called Sonnax has a fix for the TCC valve lock up. Which then damages the rest of the parts in the valve body adding to around $1300-2000 in repairs.Aamco transmissions say they even keep the part in stock because they said they get at least 1 car a week come in with that problem. Again why is there not a recall on it if its so common? Just because its not a problem that actually kills a couple hundred people in accidents? I think my transmission would be fine just doing the Sonnax fix but that’s still quite a bit of money for that.

There is a link of a message board I go to., and that’s just a couple of people and their opinion on the problem. So please let me know what you can do to help me out.
                  Thank You
